Weird News: Mud Pools of New Zealand

The picture itself speaks a thousand words, these whirlpool like geysers are called as mud pools and are said to be found in Rotorua.
Rotorua is a city on the southern shores of the lake of the same name, in the Bay of Plenty region of the North Island of New Zealand.
The city is known for its geothermal activity, with a number of geysers, notably the Pohutu Geyser at Whakarewarewa, and boiling mud pools (pictured above) located in the city. This thermal activity owes itself to the Rotorua caldera on which the city lies.
Rotorua is also a top adventure destination and is New Zealand’s Maori cultural heartland. Rotorua city is renowned for its unique “rotten eggs” aroma, which is caused by the geothermal activity releasing sulphur compounds into the atmosphere.
If you are ever visiting New Zealand
– this is a city you must see. It was once home to the famed Pink and White Terraces and you can visit thermal wonderlands with sights that are truly astounding.

Weird News: Marfa Lights or Ghost Lights

These unexplainable lights, also known as ghost lights, are usually seen near U.S. Route 67 on Mitchell Flat east of Marfa, Texas. The lights usually appear at night with no particular pattern behind them; sightings can occur days apart at times, years apart at others.
Since the 1800’s, eyewitnesses report seeing mysterious orbs of light hovering in the air approximately about ten times a year. The lights almost always appear in groups or pairs, merge, separate and dance around each other, before they disappear as mysteriously as they appear like a Baldwin brother fresh out of rehab.
Since the lights usually appear over the desert, it’s hard to reach them before they disappear and there are only a few accounts of people who have reached the lights. According to these eyewitnesses the lights are created by something similar to fireworks, but lacking smoke and sound. So, not at all like fireworks.
Explanations range from alien visitors to a jerk stunt pulled by the city in order to increase tourism. Either way, no one really has a good explanation as to why the lights appear when they do or what could cause them. To add to the mystery, similar ghost lights have been seen all over the world, usually in swamps and deserts and other places people usually avoid.

India Unique Places: Blood Donor’s Village

We wish to thank one of our dear friends who has submitted us this story.
The Gangolli village in Udupi district of Karnataka is famous as blood donors village. Everyone in the village is ready to donate blood at any time.
The village is having a population of 18,000 people. The youths of this village have donated the blood 20-25 times and all the youth above 18 years are ready to donate blood at any time. A man called Divakar Kharvi, who has donated blood for 52 times, is the inspiration for the villagers.
Diwakar Karvi Gangolli has put the theme of ‘saving a life’ before the villagers and turned them into blood donors. They organise minimum 12 camps in a year to create a stage for the blood donation.
Last year 704 units of blood were collected from 704 people.
This is the only village called as blood donors village in the country where we can’t face problem of blood. Had this village is taken as the role model, probably there will no blood scarcity in the country, thereby saving many lives.

Unique Places on Earth: The Cavern of Death

The Liyobaa Cave
After the conquest of South America by the Spanish Conquistadores, the Catholic priests who were attempting to convert the heathen Indians discovered a cave entrance to what they called “Hell.”
This entrance has since been sealed off with tons of rubble, dirt and huge stones and boulders.
“The village of ‘Liyobaa’ or to translate, ‘The Cavern of Death,’ was located in the province of Zapoteca, somewhere near the ancient village of ‘Mictlan’ or the village of the ‘Underworld.
“The Cavern of Death was actually located in the last chamber of an eight chamber building or temple. This temple had four rooms above the ground and four more important chambers built below the surface of the Earth. This building was located in “Theozapotlan,” and the tunnel entrance led one beneath a mountain.
